How to knit

How to knit:

I have recorded a video: here

Explanations bellow.

Hold the needle with the  stitches on it in your left hand. Loop the yarn that goes from the bottom of the first stitch to ball over the top of the forefinger of your right hand and hold the empty needle in your right hand.

Insert the tip of the right needle into the stitch closest to the tip of the left needle.
Move your left hand so that both needles are held in your left hand between your thumb and your forefinger. Using your right forefinger, wrap the yarn from the stitch on the left needle up and over the top of the right needle in a clockwise motion.

Slide the right needle (with the loop of yarn on it) down and towards you through the center of the stitch that is on the left needle.
Pull the yarn that is around the tip of the right needle down and through the stitch on the left needle to create a new loop ('stitch') on the right needle.
Slip the new stitch and the stitch from the left needle to which it is connected completely off the tip of the left needle.

What does the label mean?

Hello girls,

I am sorry I haven´t written anything for so long but I was trying to get my life together here in Spain.

Let´s keep up with the knitting.

Today, I want you to remember what the label drawings of the yarn ball mean. Please see bellow.

Remember always get the needle size that matches the size of the yarn. Now you know how to check it on the label!

How many stitches should I cast on?

When we start a new project we usually do not know how many stitches we have to cast on. Everyone knits different and every yarn is also different. So what we will do is:

1. Start with the yarn and the needles that you are planning on using and cast on 12 or 15 stitches.
2. "Knit one row, Purl (reverse) anotherone." repeat for about 2 inches (aprox 5 cm)
3. Meassure it (the width of this sample)

4 Calculate as follows:

Let's start...

Let's start...
Translation:
Girl: No Grandma, use just one hand for the chopsticks
Grandma: Ooops! I made a scarf.

Welcome to my knitting noodles.
My name is Paloma and I am NOT a knitting expert but I enjoy spending time doing it.
How did this start? Well... I went thru a rough moment in my personal life and I hid at home making a shawl
\

When I was done I posted it on facebook and a lot of people complimented me and asked me to teach them how to knit. I said...why not? it is a nice way to spend time with friends, we could open a bottle of wine and gossip around.
The result... some of my girls got completely addicted to it and they are doing an amazing job!

I live in Pittsburgh, PA, but I am originally from Spain. I decided to go back home and  "my knitters" got really anxious "what are we going to do now?", "who is going to help us?" "Spain is 6 hours ahead!". This is the reason why I am here right now, talking to all of you.
Hope you enjoy it!
